When and where does Prime Time Band rehearse?

The band rehearses Tuesday evenings from 6:30 pm to 8:45 pm in the band room at La Colina Junior High, 4025 Foothill Road in Santa Barbara. There are breaks during the holidays, and flexibility to accommodate members’ travel and other commitments.

What kinds of instruments do members play?

PTB is a classic concert band, with a wide variety of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments.

What time commitment is required?

Members attend rehearsals regularly and participate in three major concerts a year, with allowances for vacations, travel and other conflicts.  While participation in the band’s additional performances is not mandatory, many members enjoy the opportunity to play in service to other community groups and at parades and events.

When and where does the band perform?

Prime Time Band performs two major concerts (spring and fall) at local performance venues and a July 4 concert at the Courthouse Sunken Gardens. Performances at Stow House, for civic events and retirement communities, along with parade appearances (aboard a trolley) round out an array of opportunities to share music. All Prime Time Band performances are free.

How much skill or experience is necessary? 

Musicians of all levels enjoy playing with Prime Time Band. There are no try-outs or proficiency tests for membership—just plenty of support to help and encourage. 

What if I haven’t played for a very long time? 

Many of our members picked up an instrument for the first time since high school. Even if you haven’t played since who-knows-when, there’s a place in the band for you!

Does the band welcome beginners?

We are is dedicated to bringing the joy of music making to players of all experience levels, helping new players connect with teaching resources, mentors and entry points to ensemble playing. Several members began playing an instrument well past middle age!

Is there an age range for membership?

The band welcomes adults age 40+. Membership spans generations, with member ages ranging from age 40 to 90+!   

Is there a cost for Prime Time Band membership?

Prime Time Band is a non-profit organization. Members pay modest dues (currently $100 per quarter) to cover the cost of facilities and professional director. Scholarships are available for members with financial constraints.
